Tecnimont and Baker Hughes sign MoU to pursue modular LNG projects

The companies will establish a process to identify project needs, define work scopes and select suitable models for collaboration.

Tecnimont, part of the MAIRE group, and Baker Hughes have signed a non-exclusive memorandum of understanding (MoU) to assess joint participation in future modularised, scalable liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects globally.

The agreement will allow both companies to examine involvement in upcoming LNG tenders that feature Baker Hughes’ NMBL LNG modular solution for liquefaction facilities.

The NMBL solution is intended for fast site installation with low weight and a compact footprint. The liquefaction process module weighs approximately 3,000t with an area of roughly 1,000m² and uses an electric moto-compressor system that produces zero emissions during operation, based on scope 1 and 2 standards.

Under the terms, the companies will establish a process to identify project needs, define work scopes and select suitable models for collaboration.

The partnership aims to address increasing requirements for adaptable and efficient LNG infrastructure, in response to continued demand for lower-carbon energy sources. Modular and scalable liquefaction technology is being considered as a method to deliver greater flexibility and reduce time to market for new projects.

Tecnimont brings experience in complex engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects along the energy value chain, while Baker Hughes contributes advanced capabilities in gas liquefaction and power generation. The agreement sets out a structured framework to review future opportunities within this sector.

MAIRE CEO Alessandro Bernini said: “This agreement represents another important step in our strategy to support the evolution of global gas value chains with high-efficiency, modular solutions.

“By combining Tecnimont's EPC leadership with Baker Hughes' cutting edge liquefaction solutions, we are positioning ourselves to meet growing demand for flexible LNG capacity that supports security of supply and a more sustainable energy system.”

Tecnimont recently signed a term sheet with Argent LNG for participation in the development of an LNG export facility at Port Fourchon, Louisiana. This marks Tecnimont’s entry into the global LNG market, focusing on one of the most resilient energy hubs in the US.
