Refining capacity under maintenance across the globe was the highest at 2,308 barrels per day (bpd) in North America, according to a report by GlobalData.

Titled ‘Q3 2016 Global Refinery Maintenance Review –India Witnesses the Highest Planned Maintenance Globally in the Quarter’, the report provides details of worldwide refinery maintenance activities.

In terms of planned refining capacity under maintenance, Asia led globally with 1,370bpd, followed by North America (803bpd) and Europe (753bpd). North America and South America were the only regions across the globe with refining capacity under unplanned maintenance during the third quarter.

The US had the highest refining capacity under maintenance, including both planned and unplanned at 1,587bpd, followed by India (587bpd) and Japan (508bpd).

In terms of unplanned maintenance, the US (1,157bpd), Mexico (275bpd), Brazil (239bpd), and Canada (73bpd) were the only countries affected in the quarter.

Across the globe, the refineries with highest capacity under maintenance, including both planned and unplanned, were US-based Baton Rouge (503bpd) and Whiting (430bpd), and Plock (327bpd) in Poland.

The operators with the highest refining capacity under maintenance globally included ExxonMobil Corporation (503mbd), followed by BP (430bpd) and Indian Oil Corporation (420bpd).

BP (430bpd), Indian Oil Corporation (420bpd) and PKN ORLEN SA (327bpd) witnessed planned maintenance, while ExxonMobil Corporation (503bpd), LyondellBasell Industries (292bpd) and Petroleos Mexicanos (275bpd) witnessed unplanned maintenance globally during the quarter.
