As part of the deal, UK-based Centrica will operate the assets, along with its existing assets situated in south and central Alberta, and in north-east British Columbia.

Centrica is expected to operate around 6,760 wells, which contain around 1,500 billion cubic feet of proven and probable gas reserves.

The acquisition also includes around one million acres of undeveloped land and a large seismic database and infrastructure including gas processing plants.

Centrica Energy Canada senior vice president Wes Morningstar said that the acquisition is part of the company’s growth plans to secure a leading position as a producer of natural gas.
