UK-based oil and gas services provider Petrofac and Italian contractor Bonatti have won a joint contract from Sonatrach worth over $650m to extend the life of the company’s Alrar gas field in south-east Algeria.

Petrofac onshore engineering and construction managing director Subramanian Sarma said that the contract builds on the company’s history of successful execution in the region, where it has been operating for more than 15 years.

"Petrofac has a rigorous approach to project execution and we are focused on delivering an effective, safe solution for Sonatrach that meets our high standards," Sarma added.

Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services will be provided by the companies for 32 months, along with commissioning services for new separation and booster compression facilities at the Alrar field.

The ongoing EPC activities of Petrofac in Algeria include the southern fields development project for In Salah Gas (ISG), an association between Sonatrach, BP and Statoil.

The Alrar gas field has been in operation since 1987.
