Eaglewood Energy will reach a total depth of 3,600m in the Ubuntu-1 well in Papua New Guinea by next month, with drilling going ahead in an 8.5in hole at 2,600m.

Ubuntu-1 is located on Petroleum Prospecting Licence 259, 17km east of the Ketu and Elevala gas condensate discoveries in Papua New Guinea.

A 12.25in hole was successfully drilled and cased at 2,405m before the 8.5in hole was drilled.

The company plans to drill the remainder of the 8.5in hole this month to the top of the Alene Formation at 3,220m and set the 7in liner.

Eaglewood is the operator of the 259 licence, with a 40% participating interest in the Ubuntu Area and a 90% interest in the rest of the 259 licence.
