Biofuels firm Gevo will work in collaboration with Arabian American Development’s subsidiary South Hampton Resources to build a hydrocarbon processing demonstration plant in Texas, US.

The plant will process up to 10,000 gallons of isobutonal per month into renewable hydrocarbon materials such as jet fuel for engine testing, isooctane for petrol, isooctane and paraxylene for polyethylene terephthalate.

The plant will also supply potential customers with material for product qualification and evaluation.

Gevo CEO Patrick Gruber said that with the operation of the plant, the firm will demonstrate its fully integrated biorefinery, from renewable carbohydrates to fungible hydrocarbon materials used across the refining and petrochemical industries.

Gevo expects to complete the construction of the plant by the end of 2011.
