Ecopetrol has awarded a contract to Foster Wheeler for the second phase of the modernisation of the Barrancabermeja oil refinery in Santander, Colombia.
The scope of work includes project management consultancy, front-end engineering design and detailed engineering for the crude unit revamps.

Foster Wheeler will also assist Ecopetrol in the selection process for engineering, procurement and construction contracts, and control and supervision of EPC and construction contractors.
The refinery will receive additional heavy crude processing capability to take advantage of the available domestic heavy sour crudes, and will provide a processing configuration to meet the Colombian clean fuels product specifications.
The value of the contract was not disclosed.
