Williams Partners has received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to expand its 10,000 mile Transco natural gas pipeline in the US.

The expansion is estimated to cost $217m.

The proposal involves expanding the pipeline to provide an additional 225,000 dekatherms of natural gas transportation capacity to serve the south-east region.

The two-phase expansion will consist of approximately 23 miles of new pipeline, a new compressor facility in Dallas County and upgrades to existing compressor facilities in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.

A total of 95,000 dekatherms will be placed into service next year and 130,000 dekatherms will be placed into service in 2013.
