Oman Refineries and Petrochemicals has awarded a contract to Foster Wheeler and Honeywell’s UOP for the expansion of the Sohar refinery in Oman.
Under the contract, UOP and Foster Wheeler will provide a basic engineering design package for a solvent deasphalting (SDA) unit at the refinery.

The SDA unit will be designed to process 2.5 million tons a year of vacuum residue from Oman export blend crude to produce deasphalted oil and asphalt for road bitumen production.
The unit will also increase the refinery’s production of petroleum products such as LPG, naphtha, Jet A 1 fuel, petrol, diesel and propylene.
