Chinese oil company PetroChina has started operations at its ¥30bn ($4bn) refining and chemical complex at Dushanzi in Xinjiang’s northwestern province to boost the country’s energy security.
The complex will produce 1 million tonnes of ethylene a year and refine 10 million metric tonnes of oil a year, boosting refining capacity at Dushanzi to 16 million tonnes a year.

Production has started in the refinery, which will process high-sulphur crude oil from Kazakhstan, reports Bloomberg.
The Dushanzi project is expected to generate more than ¥60bn per year, according to the company.
