Turkey’s Petkim Petrochemical has awarded an engineering and procurement services contract to US engineering firm The Shaw Group to expand the capacity of its ethylene plant in Aliaga, Turkey.

According to the contract, Shaw will also perform additional study for the 520,000t-a-year plant.

Following the expansion, the plant’s ethylene production capacity will increase by 10%, Shaw said.

Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.

The plant was originally built by Shaw in 1986 with a capacity of 300,000t a year, which was revamped to 520,000t a year in 1999.
