China plans to import more liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet growing demand in the country, according to the country’s National Energy Administration Director Zhang Guobao.

Zhang Guobao was quoted by China Knowledge as saying the nation will also accelerate the construction of LNG terminals, natural gas pipelines and storage facilities rapidly in its coastal areas.

In 2009, China imported 3.5 million tonnes of LNG that accounted for 6% of the country’s total gas consumption during the year.
