The Al Khaleej Gas-Phase 2 (AKG-2) project has started operations to meet rising local industrial demand in Qatar, announced Qatar Petroleum and Exxon Mobil.
The AKG-2 with 1,250mcfd of sales gas capacity project includes the construction of onshore gas treating, liquids recovery and fractionation facilities, and two additional offshore wellhead platforms.

The onshore facilities are integrated with the Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited (3) facilities and initial production took place in December 2009.
Phase 2 combined with Al Khaleej Gas-Phase 1 (AKG-1) will give the AKG project a total capacity of 2,000mcfd, making it the largest domestic gas supply source in Qatar, according to the companies.
The AKG development in North Field supplies gas to various power, desalination, petrochemical and other energy-intensive industries in Qatar.
