The well is being drilled as a deviated well to test multiple sandstone objectives within the Middle to Late Miocene Belait formation.
The Mawar prospect was identified as an oil prospective after interpretation of 3D seismic data in 2009 by Kulczyk and its joint venture partners in block M.
The drilling is expected to take about 25 days. Should oil or gas be discovered the well will be suspended for testing.
Kulczyk owns 36% in block M, with Tap Energy holding 39%, China Sino Oil owning 21% and Jana Corporation the remaining 4%.
