Russia has opened its section of the Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean (ESPO) oil pipeline, which will boost oil exports to China from East Siberia.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said this is an important project because Russia is beginning to diversify the delivery of its energy resources.

“The commissioning of this section of ESPO will supply 30 million tonnes and the expanded ESPO will supply up to 50 million tonnes,” Putin added.
Work on the 64km pipeline on the Russian side by OAO Transneft began in April 2009, according to Bloomberg.
From the border the pipeline will run a further 960km to the Chinese town of Daqing.
China will begin testing after completion of its section of the pipeline in late September 2010.
