Central Petroleum has found significant oil shows in the Johnstone West-1 well (JW-1) in Australia.

The firm also recorded oil shows from the interpreted Ordovician Larapinta Group over a 22m gross interval of 1,387m-1,409m RKB and further oil shows over a depth interval of 1,469m-1,475m (6m), increasing the exploration potential of the area.

At 1,469m, the well intersected clean white-grey, very fine-grained to coarse-grained sandstone with fair to good porosity.

This new zone of interpreted Ordovician Larapinta Group underlies a mainly siltstone interval in the gross interval 1,409m–1,469m overlain by the significant shows of the 1,387m-1,409m interval.

Oil shows ranging from poor to excellent were recorded with no evidence of a water leg 1,387m-1,475m, 88m so far.

Central Petroleum is operator and holds a 90% interest in the EP 115 oil prospect.
