Americas Petrogas has said that it has found light oil in the LHo.x-1 well of Totoral block, located in the south-western region of the Neuquen Basin, Argentina.
The well has been drilled and oil production potential from the Vaca Muerta Shale of the Picun Leufu sub-basin confirmed.

The well is located near the company’s other three southernmost blocks namely Totoral, Yerba Buena and Bajada Colorada, which covers a combined area of about 1,126,600 acres.
Americas Petrogas’s president and CEO, Barclay Hambrook, said the LHo.x-1 well has added exploration benefit to the very large area, where the Vaca Muerta formation has flowed at relatively shallow depths.
"I thank our team for their dedication and their decision-making, which were instrumental in this new discovery," Hambrook added.
The LHo.x-1 well has been drilled to a total depth of about 1,900m and cased and cemented in the middle of 2012.

By GlobalDataThe well intersected the Vaca Muerta Shale formation with thickness of 666ft or 203m.
During the drilling, hydrocarbon shows were encountered and data was collected from the Mulichinco, Quintuco and Quebrada del Sapo formations.
A three-stage hydraulic stimulation programme has been conducted in the Vaca Muerta shale formation in January 2013.
Upon the completion of stimulation programme, the well has produced total liquid rate of 300-600 barrels per day, which includes 30 to 60 barrels of oil per day of high quality light sweet oil.
Americas Petrogas Argentina operation managing director Güimar Vaca Coca, said that Vaca Muerta is over-pressured at a shallow depth, which will increase the amount of resources in the Neuquen Basin, and increase hydrocarbon resources for Americas Petrogas, the Neuquen Province and Argentina altogether.
Americas Petrogas is the operator of the well with a 90% working interest on the Totoral, while Yerba Buena and Bajada Colorada blocks and Gas y Petroleo del Neuquen has a 10% working interest.
