GAIL India has unveiled the first phase of the 43km pipeline for distribution of re-gasified liquified natural gas (RLNG) across Indian states.
The company has laid a 30in-thick pipeline from Petronet LNG’s terminal from Puthuvypeen to Udyogamandal and an 18in-thick pipe from Udyogamandal to Ambalamugal.

In order to lay the line, the company secured land from public and private organisations.
Through a network of pipes laid on the seabed, RLNG will be made available to the NTPC project at Kayamkulam in the Alappuzha district of the Indian state of Kerala. The pipeline will pass through the districts of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Alappuzha, and Kasargod in Kerala.
An agreement with Kerala State Electricity Board will be signed soon.
The company said that Brahmapuram and Cheemeni projects could also be using RLNG as fuel.

The JV will participate in the bidding of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board for distribution of city gas in Kerala.
