Honeywell UOP has signed an agreement with Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company (JPRC) to support a $1.6bn expansion of JPRC’s refinery in Zarqa, Jordan.

This move is the fourth such expansion of the JPRC refinery and will see an increased production of cleaner-burning fuels and also enable JPRC to upgrade the quality of its product to comply with Euro V emissions specifications.

Under the agreement, Honeywell UOP is responsible for manager licensor services, technology licensing, front-end engineering design consultancy services, and basic engineering design.

Additional support to be provided by the company includes providing catalysts and process equipment, along with training and start-up services.

“It will help us meet the rising demand for fuel, which is growing at an average of 3% every year.”

Honeywell UOP will provide technologies such as crude and vacuum distillation units for distilling crude oil into various fractions.

In addition to unicracking and hydrotreating units to create clean distillate, it will also provide CCR Platforming, Penex, MinAlk, Merox and Selectfining units for producing cleaner-burning, high-octane motor fuels, and a Polybed PSA unit for purifying hydrogen.

Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company operates a lube oil blending facility, three LPG bottling stations and LPG storage facilities in Amman, Zarqa and Irbid, and also owns and operates an oil terminal and storage facilities in the port city of Aqaba.
