The new 615,000 barrel-a-day refinery is expected to start operations in 2018. It will help in meeting domestic demand and export of ultra-low sulphur products, such as fuel oil, diesel and kerosene, along with petrochemical feedstocks. KNPC presently holds three refineries, which produce 930,000 barrels a day.

Kuwait National Petroleum general manager James King said that the company will become one of the largest producers of clean fuels in the Middle East with the new refinery.

"Honeywell’s suite of proven technologies for the refining industry is well suited to support a quick and safe refinery start up and efficient operations," King added.

Honeywell noted that the firm has provided industry-leading technologies to KNPC’s refineries for around 30 years through its Process Solutions (HPS) business.
