Japan’s Inpex Corporation has started preliminary construction work on the Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) Project at Blaydin Point in Darwin, Australia.

The project is expected to start production by the end of 2016, with annual output of more than 8 million tonnes of LNG, 1.6 million tonnes of LPG and 100,000 barrels of condensate per day.
Inpex Corporation chairman Naoki Kuroda said that the Ichthys LNG project will deliver substantial social and economic development for decades to come.
"The Ichthys LNG project will help secure the long-term supply of cleaner energy to millions of homes and businesses across Japan," he added.
"The Ichthys LNG project will strengthen the ties between Australia and Japan, while securing Darwin’s place as an emerging hub of oil and gas activity in the region."

By GlobalDataGas produced from the Ichthys field in the Browse Basin, Western Australia, will undergo preliminary processing offshore to remove water and raw liquids, including condensate.
The gas will be exported through an 889km subsea pipeline to onshore processing facilities in Darwin.
Around 70% of LNG produced will be exported to Japan, equating to more than 10% of the country’s LNG imports.
