US-based oil and gas company Mesa Energy Holdings has commenced drilling of Thomas Unit 6H in its Turkey Creek project in Garfield County, Oklahoma, US.

The company will drill the horizontal well to a total measured depth (TMD) of about 11,700ft, along with a horizontal lateral of about 4,000ft.

Mesa Energy Holdings has a 100% working interest in the well, and is also the operator, through its subsidiary Mesa Midcontinent.

Upon the completion of drilling to a total depth, the company intends to start production casing as well as a multi-stage fracking.

In addition, Mesa Energy will drill a salt water disposal well on the same spot that will cater to multiple production wells.

The Mississippian Limestone has vertical depth of about 7,200ft and about 500ft of thickness and potential reserves between 300,000 to 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent per well.

It is spread across 6.5 million acres in the Oklahoma and Kansas regions, comprising rich oil carbonates and has been developed with vertical wells.

Mesa Energy has currently 3,400 net mineral acres in this area and is planning to lease additional acreage with additional farm out deals.

Other companies that have assets in the Mississippian Lime play include Chesapeake, SandRidge, Devon and Range Resources.

Mesa Energy Holdings CEO, Randy M Griffin, said that the company intends to expand its drilling programme and acreage position in 2013.

"We expect to begin preparations for the commencement of an additional horizontal drilling program in the Niobrara Shale in southeast Wyoming in 2013," Griffin added.
