The programme’s first well, Nicolay 1 located in EP456, will be drilled to a total depth of 3,200m in July 2012.
Sam Willis, New Standard managing director, said: "This drilling programme will represent the first exploration activity in the southern Kidson Basin in more than 30 years, so we are truly forging a new energy frontier."
The MB Century Rig 14 will be mobilised to the first drilling location by operator New Standard, after which drilling will begin on the second and third well locations, Gibb Maitland 1 and Blatchford 1.
Project partners are currently undertaking construction of the access roads, drill pad, campsite and airstrip for Nicolay 1, which is on schedule to be completed before the arrival of the drilling rig.
