Petroamerica has begun oil production at the rate of 3,250 barrels per day in the Maracas-8 well on the Las Maracas field, Los Ocarros Block in Colombia.

The well has been tested for a period of 23 hours from a 12ft perforated interval in the Mirador reservoir at different choke sizes.
The oil from the well has measured 36 degree API through a 21/64in choke size for about two hours.

In order to avoid interruptions in production operations at the field, the electro-submersible pump (ESP) was turned off and the well was choked back so that it can flow naturally at different choke sizes.

The well has flowed about 1,800 barrels of oil per day on a 16/64in choke during the first part of the test for a four-hour period.

The well is currently flowing at about 1,100 barrels of oil per day under natural flow with a 20.5/64in choke and a 3.2% watercut.

The Las Maracas-13 has been completed testing with water injector, while Las Maracas-9 is currently being drilled at about 9,700ft in the Carbonera C1 Formation.

Las Maracas-9 will target the attic oil in the Gacheta and Une reservoirs in an up-dip position from Las Maracas-3 well.

The Las Maracas Field is currently producing between 8,500 to 9,400 barrels of oil per day.

In January 2013, the company drilled Las Maracas-7 to 400m from the Las Maracas-6 well and discovered potential net oil pay in the Mirador main Gacheta and basal Gacheta sands.

Petroamerica has 50% participating interest in the Los Ocarros Block, where the Las Maracas field is situated.
