FCC units can convert petroleum crude oil feedstocks into valuable products such as gasoline.

The new CONOx system will allow refiners to reduce emissions with low capital cost technology.

The technology will also modify the operation of the FCC unit when required to meet FCC limitsm and provide necessary mono-nitrogen oxides (NOx) reduction.

Praxair refinery and hydrogen applications director Subodh Ganguly said Praxair refining specialists have collaborated with refiners for decades, and therefore posses good knowledge on FCC units.

"As one of the world’s leading industrial gas companies, we have many successful oxygen enrichment installations in refineries," Ganguly added.

"Our experience enabled us to implement FCC improvements with minimal downtime and an ever-present focus on safety."

The CONOx lance installed in the FCC unit will meet the refinery’s NOx reduction requirements.

Praxair produces, sells and distributes atmospheric and process gases and high-performance surface coatings.

The company delivers products, services and technologies to industries such as aerospace, chemicals, food and beverage, electronics, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, and metals.

In June 2011, Praxair signed an agreement with Motiva Enterprises to supply hydrogen to Motiva’s refinery in Louisiana, US.
