SAL commissions the Sietas shipyard with the construction of two heavy lift vessels of a new generation. The new vessels of type 183 will be the largest and most modern heavy lift ships in the world with a combined lifting capacity of 2,000t (2 x 1,000t) and a speed of up to 20kn. The vessels can trade with an open hatch and accommodate exceptionally large loads.

Aside from their innovative technology, the vessels will also be certified with an “environmental passport” in compliance with the highest environmental protection specifications. These technical and ecological preconditions ensure that the vessels will be ready for employment in future markets including wind energy, offshore/oil and gas industries, industrial plants and other sectors.

The delivery of both new buildings will be in December 2010 and March 2011. The commission of these two vessels represents a continuation of a long standing and fruitful cooperation between SAL and the Sietas shipyard.
