Marine breakaway couplings

Marine breakaway couplings are designed to be specifically installed within a hose string, where the coupling would have a length of hose attached to both sides. Their unique design includes external features that provide increased resistance to bending moments and torsional forces, which may be exerted upon the coupling and therefore preventing premature activation. Typical applications include ship to offshore platform, and ship-to-ship transfer operations.

Full-bore breakaway couplings

Full-bore couplings are the world’s first breakaway couplings specifically developed for service with dry powder, viscous or abrasive media. With all working mechanisms 100% isolated from the media until activation, the KLAW full-bore function is not affected by clogging or abrasion and provides instantaneous double shut off when a predetermined tensile load is applied.

KLAW’s full-bore breakaway couplings are typically utilised for dry cement, bitumen, and mud and waste products. They provide no line restriction and are piggable.

Emergency release coupling

KLAW’s emergency release coupling (ERC) is suitable for dynamic applications such as ship-to-ship or ship-to-rig. With this model, the release can be hydraulically controlled and the ERC can be activated prior to any excessive forces being applied by vessel movement. With automatic sensors or manual override, this system offers extensive flexibility and options for the operator.

The KLAW ERC can safely accommodate very high operational forces. With extensive choice in the control system, the hydraulic power unit (HPU) can be electric or air driven, and of a bespoke design to accommodate the users’ exact requirements. These systems are extensively used for ship-to-ship and ship-to-rig transfers, with typical media being fuels, chemicals and LNG (cryogenic).

Swivel joints and rotary feeders

KLAW swivel joints have been designed to accommodate any swivel action. They can be used within rigid articulated piping and flexible hose systems. From bulk transfer to reciprocating industrial equipment, KLAW swivel joints improve efficiency and prevent associated problems with fatigue and stress.

KLAW rotary connections, sometimes referred to as multi-port feeders, provide an efficient and ingenious way to transfer up to 30 different media simultaneously into rotating equipment.

Dry disconnect couplings

When moving valuable or hazardous fluids, the last thing you need are spills: they can be costly and dangerous to personnel and the environment. Using KLAW dry disconnect couplings, spills and omissions are minimised during the connection and disconnection process.
