Seismic Survey

Australia-based Searcher Seismic in cooperation with Mage has completed the purchase of the Echidna Regional Broadband 2D seismic survey offshore Ireland.

The survey covered the Porcupine & Slyne Basins and the Goban Spur and includes well-tie to more than 30 exploration wells.

According to the company, it also incorporates the Connemarra and Burren oil fields and the Spanish Point gas discovery.

Acquired with a 10km streamer, the Echidna survey that was carried out using modern processing and acquisition techniques comprising approximately 9,100km of long-offset broadband 2D seismic data.

"Thirty E&A wells, which is approximately 80% of wells drilled in the area, are tied by the Echidna 2D survey."

Searcher Seismic said that it is the first regional, long-offset well tie survey over the Irish Continental Shelf.

Searcher Seismic Norway country manager Jan Gunnar Opsal said significant input went into the design of the survey to help ensure that it was complementary to the recently acquired ENI-PAD data.

"Thirty E&A wells, which is approximately 80% of wells drilled in the area, are tied by the Echidna 2D survey.

"The rift systems associated with these basins are among the most interesting exploration targets in the North Atlantic and we are confident the Echidna survey will provide a solid foundation for evaluation of the area."

The survey also incorporates the drilling results in one consistent, long offset broadband seismic dataset.
