Ecopetrol has discovered the presence of hydrocarbons at exploratory well Tinkhana-1, which is located in the Western Area block in Putumayo, Colombia.

The well is part of exploratory work being carried out under the Western Area Production Agreement signed with National Hydrocarbons Agency.

Drilling operations at the well commenced in November 2010 and reached a final depth of 6,812ft.

The company said it will perform initial well testing on the Lower Caballos Formation. Its original discovery pressure is producing an average flow of 140bopd of 25° API gravity, at a thickness of 16ft.

Ecopetrol CEO Javier Gutierrez Pemberthy said Tinkhana-1’s production will move at a faster pace with the production and transport infrastructure already in place.
