Tullow Oil has discovered oil and gas-condensate at the Wawa-1 exploration well in the Deepwater Tano licence, offshore of Ghana.
Good quality oil between 38 and 44 degrees API has been identified in samples, the company said.

The Atwood Hunter semi submersible rig was employed to drill the well ten kilometres north of the Enyenra-3A well, to a final depth of 3,322m in water depths of 587m.
Tullow tested the previously undrilled, updip portion of the licence. Pressure data shows that it is a separate accumulation from the TEN fields, a project which includes three hydrocarbon accumulations; Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme.
Angus McCoss, Tullow Oil exploration director, said: “It (Wawa-1) found light oil and gas condensate, trapped separately from TEN and demonstrates once again that liquid rich hydrocarbons are pervasive in this prospective licence.
“We look forward to the drilling of Okure and Sapele in the second half of 2012.”

Tullow has a 49.95% stake and is the operater of the Deepwater Tano licence, while co-partners include Kosmos Energy with an 18% interest; Anadarko Petroleum, which also holds a 18% stake; Sabre, which holds a four percent stake; and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation with a ten percent carried interest.
