Aker BP has announced the completion of a 1,000t monoethylene glycol (MEG) module for the Valhall PWP-Fenris project at Nymo’s shipyard in Grimstad, Norway.
The module, which will serve the new platform at the Valhall field in the southern part of the North Sea, is now ready for transport to Aker Solutions’ yard at Stord.

There, it will be integrated with the production and wellhead platform (PWP) ahead of installation at Valhall. Production start-up for the Valhall PWP-Fenris project is anticipated in the second quarter of 2027 (Q2 2027).
Aker BP stated that the newly completed MEG module is designed to facilitate the recycling of monoethylene glycol in pipelines linking the Valhall and Fenris fields. This process supports operational safety and stability over extended offshore distances, said the company.
Aker BP project director Rannveig Storebø said: “This is a significant and highly visible milestone in the Valhall PWP-Fenris project. The module is the result of close collaboration between Aker BP, Aker Solutions, NOV and Nymo – and a strong example of what we achieve when we work as one team.”
NOV Process Systems managed the design, engineering and procurement for the MEG plant, while Nymo was responsible for fabricating and completing the module in Grimstad.
NOV senior vice-president Rune Fantoft said: “This facility represents one of the most technically advanced process technologies required for offshore gas production.
“Delivering this project with fabrication at Nymo’s yard in Grimstad – and continuing our close collaboration with Aker BP as the technology is put into operation at Valhall – marks an important milestone for us.”
Construction activity has been considerable since first steel was cut in 2023. Nymo’s Grimstad and Arendal sites both experienced high levels of activity related to this project, particularly the fabrication of a 1,200t bridge connecting the new platform to the existing Valhall field centre.
At peak times, more than 800 employees, contractors and suppliers were working across both locations.
The ongoing development has led to further business for regional suppliers, with local goods and services contracted at more than Nkr1.5bn ($154.8m).
Valhall PWP-Fenris ranks among the largest active oil and gas developments on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).
The coordinated scheme includes a new centrally located PWP tied by bridge to the Valhall field centre, along with an unmanned installation at Fenris approximately 50km away. Subsea equipment and pipelines connect Fenris to the PWP.
Aker BP operates both fields, while INPEX Idemitsu Norge is a partner in Valhall and Orlen Upstream Norway a partner in Fenris.
Last month, Aker Solutions secured a five-year contract from Aker BP to provide maintenance, modification and operation (MMO) services across several assets on the NCS.
