Horizon Oil has reported first gas production from the Sinphuhorm Pad D Facility Project in Thailand, reaching this milestone nearly 50 days ahead of schedule.

The Australian upstream company confirmed that the facility achieved first gas on 11 August 2026 following the completion of planned commissioning activities.

During a 72-hour performance test, the PH-14 well at Pad D produced gross gas rates ranging from 25 million standard cubic feet per day (mscf/d) to 30mscf/d.

The facility has now transitioned to routine operations.

The Pad D development is part of Horizon’s efforts to optimise and expand the production infrastructure across its gas assets in Thailand.

The Sinphuhorm gas field is operated as a joint venture (JV). PTTEP holds a 90% interest and acts as the operator. The remaining 10% is held by EMEPK, which includes Matahio with a 2.5% stake and Horizon with a 7.5% stake.

Horizon CEO Richard Beament said: “Achieving first gas approximately 50 days ahead of schedule and successfully completing the performance testing programme are outstanding outcomes that demonstrate the quality of planning, execution and collaboration across the project team.

“The strong initial performance from PH-14, producing between 25 and 30mscf/d during testing, validates the potential of the Pad D development and the quality of the gas resources in this part of the field.”

Located at the northernmost extent of the Sinphuhorm field, the Pad D site is positioned to access areas of the field that have historically been less effectively drained.

According to Horizon, this section is expected to contain a significant share of the field’s remaining recoverable gas resources.

The Pad D facility was commissioned to support production from several wells, including the PH-14 well. It also features the recently recompleted PH-01ST1 well, the original 1983 discovery well for Sinphuhorm that is due to come online soon.

Horizon stated that the project is expected to increase field productivity, better utilise existing infrastructure and help maintain a reliable domestic energy supply to the Thai market through long-term gas sales contracts with oil-linked pricing.
