Italian offshore engineering contractor Saipem has secured a contract from GOE Petrol Sanayi to provide commissioning services for the Osman Gazi floating production unit (FPU), which will serve the Sakarya gas field in the Turkish Black Sea.
The work is expected to last for around eight months. It follows an operation readiness and assurance support services contract awarded to Saipem in April 2026, extending the company’s role in the Sakarya development.

The Sakarya field is being developed by the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO). GOE is the engineering contractor for the FPU phase of the development.
Located in the western Black Sea within block AR/TPO/KD/C26-C27-D26-D27, the field sits roughly 175km offshore Eregli, Türkiye, in water depths of around 2,150m.
The field began producing first gas in April 2023 and its development is planned in three phases. In the first phase, Sakarya is expected to supply ten million cubic metres per day of natural gas.
Output is set to rise to 40 million cubic metres per day as further wells are drilled.
Production from the field reached approximately 9.5 million cubic metres per day by April 2025. Once the development is complete, it is expected to meet 30% of Türkiye’s natural gas demand, according to the project information.
TPAO discovered Sakarya in August 2020 through the Tuna-1 ultra-deepwater exploration well, drilled by sixth-generation drill-ship the Fatih.
The well was drilled in 2,115m of water to a depth of 4,525m and encountered a gas-bearing reservoir of more than 100m in Pliocene and Miocene sandstone formations.
The initial discovery was estimated to contain 320 billion cubic metres (bcm) of lean gas.
A further discovery in the lower part of the Tuna-1 well increased the potential reserve estimate to 405bcm in October 2020. The additional reservoir was found at a depth of 4,775m.
Drilling at the Amasra-1 exploration well in the northern part of the field identified a further 135bcm of gas in June 2021, taking cumulative estimated reserves to 540bcm.
The gas was found at three levels between 3,000m and 4,775m in sandstone formations dating from the Pliocene to Miocene periods.
GOE, founded in 2001, provides engineering, project management, operational management and maintenance services for offshore oil and gas projects.
The company says it has more than 600 experts working across Croatia, Türkiye, Singapore and offshore sites.
In July 2026, Saipem secured contracts from Eni and its affiliates for two projects, one offshore in Ivory Coast and one at a biorefinery in Italy, with a combined value of approximately $911m (€800m).
