Seascape Energy has received a letter of agreement from Petronas, through Malaysia Petroleum Management, for a 547km² expansion of its Temaris Cluster Small Field Asset production sharing contract (PSC) offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

The extension, located north and east of the existing area, would increase the Temaris PSC to around 1,770km² from around 1,200km².

Seascape holds a 100% interest in the PSC. Final documentation is still to be completed.

The enlarged area covers part of the Miocene channelised sandstone system associated with the Temaris play. It would bring the wider gas play under one PSC, with resources subject to the same Small Field Asset PSC fiscal terms.

Seascape said the new acreage could materially increase exploration potential.

It has commissioned Sproule ERCE to revise an earlier competent person’s report, which identified 950 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gross mean prospective resources across several horizons and trap types in the original Temaris PSC.

The company expects the updated report in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Seascape has previously referred to approximately 1tcf of net mean prospective resources on the Temaris PSC and said the extension has the potential to double that figure.

Petronas plans to acquire new 3D seismic data across the extension as part of a regional programme in late 2026.

The data is expected to be made available to the company. Seascape said it could help assess a possible continuation of the Mengkuang discovery, which it identified from legacy 2D seismic data and has estimated 2C resources of 29 billion standard cubic feet.

The additional work programme includes processing the new seismic data and drilling a contingent exploration well. Seascape said it would fund the firm commitment from existing cash resources.

Temaris was awarded to Seascape in June 2025 under the Discovered Resource Opportunity element of Malaysian Bid Round (MBR) 2025.

The shallow-water area, in around 70m of water on the western side of the Malay basin, contains the Tembakau and Mengkuang gas discoveries.

Following a subsurface review and 3D seismic reprocessing using full waveform inversion, Seascape identified channel features across multiple horizons in the extended area.

The company has resumed its process to seek a strategic partner for the PSC after pausing it during discussions on the extension.

It aims to introduce a partner before submitting its field development plan in late Q4 2026.

Seascape Malaysia country chair and executive director Pierre Eliet said: “This is a welcome portfolio addition at a time when macro events are leading the industry to rethink its strategic priorities.

“The value of Asian gas into Asian markets is starting to become clear, and the attractions of scarce, high-quality exploration opportunities in stable jurisdictions with strong, high-growth, high-demand markets is becoming very apparent.”

In July 2026, Petronas, via its fully owned subsidiary Petronas Suriname, reported two new hydrocarbon discoveries and a successful appraisal well in offshore Block 52, Suriname.
