Twister BV, the supplier of Twister Supersonic Gas Conditioning technology, has launched Twister Flow Solutions, a specialist consultancy service for the natural gas industry based on their proprietary Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling capabilities. Twister develops and supplies innovative gas processing solutions for their customers including the Twister Supersonic Separator.

The customized Twister CFD code, based on CFX-5 software, allows the effective modeling of multiphase phenomena in real gas media and is a powerful tool which can be used in the performance analysis of process equipment, for optimizing process facilities and for reducing new product development costs.

The Twister Flow Solutions service is supported by a co-operation agreement with a partnership providing the additional capability to analyse chemical reactions in fluids and to provide mechanized analyses (FEM) services.

Twister developed and validated a unique CFD capability in order to facilitate the design and development of the Twister Supersonic Separator which utilizes a combination of aerodynamics, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics to achieve cryogenic condensation and separation within a compact tube. Twister efficiently processes gas with no moving parts and without the use of chemicals. Supersonic gas flow is used to generate high centrifugal forces which separate the liquids in a simple inline cyclonic separator. Due to the short residence time, hydrates are unable to form within the tube. The process is environmentally friendly with no pollutants being released to the atmosphere.

Twister offers a simple, reliable, compact and lightweight method for dehydrating and hydrocarbon dewpointing gas. It can also be used to recover Natural Gas Liquids. Due to the fact that Twister has no moving parts and requires no chemicals, it supports unmanned operation which offers the opportunity for significant project cost savings, particularly in offshore, and later sub-sea, environments.

The Twister Flow Solutions consultancy service is expected to be of interest to manufacturers of equipment handling multiphase gas flow such as gas compressors, steam turbines, turbo-expanders, pumps, separators, choke valves, heat exchangers, columns and flow meters.
