Canada oil & gas industry registered a 0.7% decline in IT hiring activity in June 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.

The industry’s overall hiring an increased by 4.58% in June 2021 compared with May 2021.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 5% share in June 2021, recording an increase of 0.1% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in June 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 91.53% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada oil & gas industry in June 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 38.98% in June 2021, a 9.52% growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 20.34% share, decline of 42.86% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 13.56%, registering an 11.11% decline from May 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 10.17%, down 25% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Canada IT recruitment activity in June 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 3.23% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada oil & gas industry during June 2021 over May 2021.

Parkland posted 14 IT jobs in June 2021 and registered a rise of 7.69% over the previous month, followed by Suncor Energy with 7 jobs and a 41.67% drop. Vista Projects with 5 IT jobs and Enbridge with 3 jobs, recorded a 400% growth and a 200% increase, respectively, while Canadian Natural Resources recorded a 25% decline with 3 job postings during June 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in June 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 61.02%, down by 25% from May 2021. Mid Level positions with a 30.51% share, a growth of 157.14% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 8.47% share, down 44.44% over May 2021.
