South & Central America witnessed a 7.2% decline in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in July 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.

July 2021 has seen an increase of 7.53% in the overall hiring activity when compared with June 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 13.98% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in July 2021, registering decrease of 2.85% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in July 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in South & Central America with a share of 54.9% in July 2021, a 28.81% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 15.03% in July 2021, marking a 14.81% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 11.76% in July 2021, a 40% drop from June 2021.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 9.15% in July 2021, a 133.33% rise over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in South & Central America’s IT recruitment activity in July 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 23.86% in the overall IT recruitment activity of South & Central America’s oil & gas industry during July 2021 over previous month.

Exxon Mobil posted 120 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a decline of 28.99% over the previous month, followed by Galp Energia SGPS with 6 jobs and a flat growth. World Fuel Services with 3 IT jobs and Yara International with 3 jobs, recorded a 40% decline and a 200% increase, respectively, while TotalEnergies recorded a 100% increase with 2 job postings during July 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in South & Central America’s oil & gas industry

Brazil commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 61.44% share in July 2021, a 15.32% decline over June 2021. Argentina featured next with a 28.1% share, down 38.57% over the previous month. Costa Rica recorded a 1.96% share, a drop of 40% compared with June 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 81.7%, down by 21.38% from June 2021. Mid Level positions with an 11.76% share, a decline of 25% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 6.54% share, down 16.67% over June 2021.
