A recently filed patent (Publication Number: US20230135913A1) describes a subsea skid made of non-metallic materials. The subsea skid consists of a frame formed by a plurality of skid tubes and skid joints. Each skid joint has two or more legs with a circumferential inner surface that is cured to a circumferential outer surface of one of the skid tubes. The circumferential outer surface is located on an end portion of the skid tube. The skid joints are formed by curing multiple sections together, with each section having curved portions and planar flange portions.

The subsea skid also includes padeye plates formed on the outer surfaces of the skid joints. The skid joints include support joints with support flanges, to which a valve string comprising multiple flanges can be fastened. The skid tubes consist of horizontal, vertical, and angled tubes, forming a rectangular pattern with four corners and four sides. Trapezoidal patterns are disposed outwardly of two opposing sides of the rectangular pattern. Padeye plates are formed on the outer surfaces of the skid joints at the four corners of the rectangular pattern.

The skid tubes and skid joints are made of non-metallic materials, such as carbon fiber, composite materials, or polymeric materials. The tube wall thickness of both the skid tubes and skid joints falls within a range of 8 mm to 12 mm. The tube portions of the skid tubes and skid joints are filament wound carbon fiber tubes, with a layup of plies wound at an angle within a range of -45 degrees to 45 degrees or -10 degrees to 10 degrees.

The patent also describes a method of forming the subsea skid. The method involves arranging portions of the skid tubes in the legs of the skid joints to form the frame and then curing the portions of the skid tubes to the legs of the skid joints. Additionally, the method includes fastening flanges of a valve string to the support flanges of the skid joints. The skid tubes and skid joints used in the method are made of non-metallic materials, specifically filament wound carbon fiber tubes.

Overall, this patent presents a subsea skid design that utilizes non-metallic materials, such as carbon fiber, to form a lightweight and durable frame. The use of non-metallic materials allows for greater flexibility in design and reduces the risk of corrosion in subsea environments. The method described in the patent provides a process for efficiently constructing the subsea skid using non-metallic materials.
