
The US oil & gas industry saw a drop of 28.7% in overall deal activity during May 2019, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 62 deals worth $33.13bn were announced in May 2019, compared to the 12-month average of 87 deals.
M&A was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 50 deals which accounted for 80.7% of all deals.
In second place was venture financing with eight deals, followed by private equity with four transactions, respectively accounting for 12.9% and 6.5% of overall deal activity in the country’s oil & gas industry during the month.
In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US oil & gas industry with total deals worth $20.98bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $11.6bn and $547.07m, respectively.
US oil & gas industry deals in May 2019: Top deals
The top five oil & gas industry deals accounted for 82.9% of the overall value during May 2019.
The combined value of the top five oil & gas industry deals stood at $27.46bn, against the overall value of $33.13bn recorded for the month. The top announced US oil & gas industry deal tracked by GlobalData in May 2019 was MPLX‘s $14bn acquisition of Andeavor Logistics.
In second place was the $10.3bn private equity deal with Buckeye Partners by IFM Investors and in third place was Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners’ $1.3bn private equity deal with Venture Global LNG.
The $965m asset transaction with Shell Offshore by Equinor and NGL Energy Partners’ acquisition of Mesquite Disposals Unlimited for $890m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
