Viewers of the virtual tour can explore different areas of the Cygnus Alpha offshore platform, such as the helipad, the sleeping and living quarters, the fitness centre and recreational rooms, the medical centre, and all the operational areas you would expect to see on a gas platform.
As well as providing a 360-degree view, a range of workers – from the offshore installation manager and lead production manager to the resident chef – share their experience on-board in candid interviews.
“The accommodation is brand spanking new so it’s really good, it’s really well-thought of, the sound-proofing is really good. Whereas on some older installations you can hear if the person snores in the next cabin you can hear them, whilst here you definitely can’t,” says Cygnus medic Geraint Davies in an interview.
The Cygnus Alpha rig has gross 2P reserves of 635 billion cubic feet of gas, typically exporting 300 million cubic feet of gas per day.
The Alpha installation is made up of three parts, a drilling an extraction platform, a processing and exporting platform, and an accommodation and support services platform. At peak production, Spirit Energy said the field will contribute to 5% of the UK’s total gas production.
Those interested in seeing what it is like to work on Cygnus Alpha can take the virtual tour here.
