Asia-Pacific witnessed a 12.2% drop in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

December 2021 has seen a decrease of 5.86% in the overall hiring activity when compared with November 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 9.77% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in December 2021, registered flat growth over the last three-month average share.


Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in December 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Asia-Pacific with a share of 67.22% in December 2021, an 11.84% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 13.3% in December 2021, marking a 36.36% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 10.93% in December 2021, a 2.13% drop from November 2021.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 5.23% in December 2021, a 37.14% decline over the previous month.


Top five oil & gas companies in Asia-Pacific’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 11.7% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Asia-Pacific’s oil & gas industry during December 2021 over previous month.

Royal Dutch Shell posted 122 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a decline of 22.78% over the previous month, followed by Yara International with 54 jobs and an 8.47% drop. Baker Hughes with 44 IT jobs and Exxon Mobil with 16 jobs, recorded a 12% drop and a 60% rise, respectively, while Henkel AGKGaA recorded a 160% increase with 13 job postings during December 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Asia-Pacific’s oil & gas industry

India commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 57.96% share in December 2021, a 27.16% decrease over November 2021. China featured next with a 12.11% share, down 3.77% over the previous month. Singapore recorded an 8.31% share, a drop of 2.78% compared with November 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 66.27%, down by 19.13% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 27.79% share, registered a decline of 23.03% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 5.94% share, down 41.86% over November 2021.
