Canada’s oil & gas industry registered a 6.0% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 7.53% in September 2021 when compared with August 2021.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 4.35% share in September 2021, recording a decrease of 0.61% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.04% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry in September 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 45.1% in September 2021, registering a 28.13% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 29.41% share, an increase of 114.29% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 13.73%, registering a 30% decline from August 2021.

4) Computer and Information Research Scientists captured a share of 5.88%, flat growth over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 21.74% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry during September 2021 over August 2021.

Exxon Mobil posted 7 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 40% over the previous month, followed by Parkland with 7 jobs and a 40% growth. TC Energy with 5 IT jobs and John Wood Group with 5 jobs, recorded a 37.5% decline and a 66.67% flat growth, respectively, while Suncor Energy recorded an increase of 100% with 4 job postings during September 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 58.82%, up by 7.14% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 27.45% share, registered a decline of 33.33% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 13.73% share, down 22.22% over August 2021.
