Canada’s oil & gas industry registered a 9.4% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 6.55% in July 2022 when compared with June 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.67% share in July 2022, recording a decrease of 0.6% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in July 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.06% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry in July 2022.

1) Database and Network Administrators and Architects recorded a share of 35.29% in July 2022, registering a 7.69% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 32.35% share, an increase of 120% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 14.71%, registering a flat growth from June 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 8.82%, flat growth over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in July 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 50% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry during July 2022 over June 2022.

ShawCor posted 5 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by TC Energy with 4 jobs and a 100% growth. Parkland with 4 IT jobs and Enbridge with 3 jobs, recorded a 20% decline and a flat growth, respectively, while Nova Chemicals recorded a flat growth with 2 job postings during July 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 64.71%, down by 8.33% from June 2022. Entry Level positions with a 20.59% share, registered an increase of 250% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 14.71% share, down 44.44% over June 2022.
