Canada’s oil & gas industry registered a 4.2% rise in IT hiring activity in October 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 7.7% in October 2021 when compared with September 2021.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 4.11% share in October 2021, recording a decrease of 0.82% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry in October 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 36.21% in October 2021, registering a 16.67% growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 25.86% share, an increase of 87.5% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 17.24%, registering a 400% rise from September 2021.

4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 13.79%, down 46.67% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 50% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry during October 2021 over September 2021.

TC Energy posted 11 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a rise of 120% over the previous month, followed by Suncor Energy with 6 jobs and a 50% growth. Parkland with 5 IT jobs and Canadian Natural Resources with 4 jobs, recorded a 28.57% decline and a 33.33% growth, respectively, while Nutrien recorded an increase of 300% with 4 job postings during October 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 58.62%, up by 21.43% from September 2021. Mid Level positions with a 27.59% share, registered an increase of 23.08% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 13.79% share, up 100% over September 2021.
