Europe witnessed a 1.8% drop in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in July 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

July 2022 has seen an increase of 1.02% in the overall hiring activity when compared with June 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 5.41% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in July 2022, registering a decrease of 0.1% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in July 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Europe with a share of 29.64% in July 2022, a 20.69% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 26.8% in July 2022, marking a 1.96% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Computer and Information Analysts with a share of 17.53% in July 2022, a 13.33% rise from June 2022.

Miscellaneous Computer Occupations registered a share of 13.4% in July 2022, a 31.58% decline over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Europe’s IT recruitment activity in July 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 55.45% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Europe’s oil & gas industry during July 2022 over previous month.

Shell posted 41 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered an increase of 41.38% over the previous month, followed by Clariant with 31 jobs and a 3000% growth. Sika with 29 IT jobs and BASF with 28 jobs, recorded a 61.11% rise and a 12% rise, respectively, while BP recorded a flat growth with 28 job postings during July 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Europe’s oil & gas industry

The UK commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 29.12% share in July 2022, an 11.72% decrease over June 2022. Germany featured next with a 19.59% share, down 2.56% over the previous month. Switzerland recorded a 10.31% share, a growth of 471.43% compared with June 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 68.81%, down by 12.17% from June 2022. Mid Level positions with a 17.53% share, registered a decline of 5.56% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 12.89% share, up 16.28% over June 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.77%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
