
The global oil & gas industry noticed a 4.3% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2021 over the previous month, led by Exxon Mobil’s 16.13% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The oil & gas industry’s overall hiring activity increased 3.99% when compared with August 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 5.61% share of the global oil & gas industry’s hiring activity in September 2021, down 0.08% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2021 were 0.59% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 0.99% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive oil & gas IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 56.9% emerged as the top IT occupation in the oil & gas hiring activity in September 2021, a 7.39% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 15.18% in September 2021, up 6.3% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 14.01% share in September 2021, a growth of 38.74% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 8.62% share in September 2021 and a flat growth over August 2021.
Top five oil & gas companies by recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 21.09% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global oil & gas industry during September 2021 over August 2021.
Exxon Mobil posted 305 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 6.27% over the previous month, followed by Baker Hughes Holdings with 127 jobs and a 13.39% growth. Henkel AGKGaA with 87 IT jobs and TotalEnergies with 74 jobs, recorded a 248% growth and a 48% rise, respectively, while Yara International recorded a 3.95% drop with 73 job postings during September 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in oil & gas industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global oil & gas IT hiring activity in September 2021 with a 38.97% share, which marked a 13.38% rise over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 29.93%, registering a 7.97% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with a 21.58% share and a 27.5% rise over August 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 7.51% and a month-on-month drop of 5.33%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.96%, registering a 42.31% increase over the previous month.
