Middle East & Africa’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity drops 7.1% in December 2021

Middle East & Africa witnessed a 7.1% drop in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

December 2021 has seen a decrease of 6.94% in the overall hiring activity when compared with November 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 4.02% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in December 2021, registering a decrease of 0.11% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in December 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Middle East & Africa with a share of 56% in December 2021, a 40% rise over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 28% in December 2021, marking a 16.67% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 8% in December 2021, a 33.33% drop from November 2021.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 4% in December 2021, a flat growth over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Middle East & Africa’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 81.82% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Middle East & Africa’s oil & gas industry during December 2021 over previous month.

Baker Hughes posted 7 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered an increase of 133.33% over the previous month, followed by Henkel AGKGaA with 4 jobs and a 300% growth. John Wood Group with 4 IT jobs and Worley with 3 jobs, recorded a 100% rise and a flat growth, respectively, while Sasol recorded a flat growth with 2 job postings during December 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Middle East & Africa’s oil & gas industry

Saudi Arabia commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 24% share in December 2021, a flat growth over November 2021. Egypt featured next with a 20% share, up 66.67% over the previous month. United Arab Emirates recorded a 16% share, a growth of 33.33% compared with November 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 48%, down by 7.69% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 32% share, registered a growth of 33.33% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 20% share, up 66.67% over November 2021.
