July 2022 has seen a decrease of 1.23% in the overall hiring activity when compared with June 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 4.24% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in July 2022, registering a decrease of 0.28% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in July 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 34.64% in July 2022, a 7.21% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 25% in July 2022, marking a 5.19% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Computer and Information Analysts with a share of 18.61% in July 2022, a 16.16% drop from June 2022.

Top five oil & gas companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in July 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 14.61% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s oil & gas industry during July 2022 over previous month.

Koch Industries posted 158 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a decline of 17.71% over the previous month, followed by Sasol with 60 jobs and a 48.72% drop. Oceaneering International with 37 IT jobs and Baker Hughes with 23 jobs, recorded a 270% rise and a 64.29% rise, respectively, while Halliburton recorded a 25% increase with 20 job postings during July 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s oil & gas industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 95.4% share in July 2022, a 10.04% decrease over June 2022. Canada featured next with a 3.59% share, down 3.03% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 1.01% share, a drop of 18.18% compared with June 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 66.93%, down by 11.29% from June 2022. Mid Level positions with a 21.52% share, registered a growth of 2.67% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with an 11.55% share, down 18.9% over June 2022.
