May 2022 has seen an increase of 1.73% in the overall hiring activity when compared with April 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.47% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in May 2022, registering an increase of 0.29% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in May 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 39.35% in May 2022, a 4.69% drop over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in next, claiming a share of 20% in May 2022, marking a 13.14% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 17.81% in May 2022, a 12.66% drop from April 2022.

Top five oil & gas companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 3.04% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s oil & gas industry during May 2022 over previous month.

Koch Industries posted 194 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a decline of 17.09% over the previous month, followed by Sasol with 98 jobs and a 28.95% growth. Exxon Mobil with 24 IT jobs and Targa Resources with 18 jobs, recorded a 17.24% drop and a 38.46% rise, respectively, while Air Products and Chemicals recorded a 70% increase with 17 job postings during May 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s oil & gas industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 94.97% share in May 2022, a 0.14% increase over April 2022. Canada featured next with a 4% share, down 24.39% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 1.03% share, a flat growth compared with April 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 69.03%, down by 2.37% from April 2022. Mid Level positions with a 20.77% share, registered a growth of 5.92% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 9.81% share, down 6.17% over April 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.39%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
