North America witnessed a 6.8% rise in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in April 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

April 2022 has seen an increase of 2.69% in the overall hiring activity when compared with March 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 5.26% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in April 2022, registering an increase of 0.29% over the last three-month average share.

 

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in April 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 49.72% in April 2022, a 9.5% rise over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 15.85% in April 2022, marking a 20.71% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Computer and Information Analysts with a share of 14.17% in April 2022, an 11.85% rise from March 2022.

Top five oil & gas companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in April 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 100.38% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s oil & gas industry during April 2022 over previous month.

Koch Industries posted 258 IT jobs in April 2022 and registered an increase of 67.53% over the previous month, followed by Oceaneering International with 88 jobs and a flat growth. Sasol with 74 IT jobs and Exxon Mobil with 61 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 16.44% drop, respectively, while Air Products and Chemicals recorded a 25.71% increase with 44 job postings during April 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s oil & gas industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 94.93% share in April 2022, a 14.22% increase over March 2022. Canada featured next with a 4.03% share, down 25.86% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 1.03% share, a drop of 8.33% compared with March 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in April 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 65.2%, up by 22.79% from March 2022. Mid Level positions with a 22.8% share, registered a decline of 5.08% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 11.73% share, down 3.85% over March 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.28%, recording a month-on-month decline of 25%.
